Tour of Denmark stage 2
After a great first stage along the Danish coastline, today we
cycled completely inland. Unfortunately the stage began just as
yesterday's ended, with lots of rain. This went on for a good 30km
but then it dried out and it stayed dry for the rest of the
day.
It took a good while before a leading group got away. After
hundreds of attacks, two riders finally got away. They built up a
sizeable advantage while the peloton controlled things from
behind.
The finish once again involved several circuits, but this time
they were shorter than yesterday, only being a good 3km. It was a
hilly circuit with an uphill finish - with a small climb I was
hoping for a good stage placing. The leading group were swallowed
up and then with about two laps left a group got away with
contained David de Roo from Skil-Shimano. When only two riders were
left of this group, I tried twice to get away and bridge up to this
but that didn't work out. In the end it was a mass sprint where my
teammate Bert de Backer obtained a great third place. I finished in
the first 20 and I am now 8th in the overall standings.
Unfortunately that does not mean too much though because there are
many riders who have the same time as me.
On tomorrow's stage the finishing circuit has a steep climb.
Hopefully my legs will be strong enough so I can get a good result.
I am definitely up for it!
Greetings,
Koen
