Third day Ster Elektrotoer
Today with like a mini Amstel Gold Race with amongst other
climbs, the Cauberg, two times up the Eyserbosweg and the
Gulpenerberg.
I really wanted to attack today and immediately at the start of
the stage I joined a group of 20. After around 15 kilometres the
group was caught by the peloton. After that I attacked a few times
again. In the end a group of four got away with Piet Rooijakkers
from Skil-Shimano.
Rabobank rode a good tempo at the head of the peloton and there
wasn't much happening on the small climbs until the second
ascension of the Eyserbosweg. I felt good then and I was present
every time that a little group got a gap after the
Eyserbosweg but the groups never decent gaps. The most serious
group got away on the Cauberg but these didn't stay away too long
either.
In the end the sprinters' teams took control of the race to set
up a mass sprint. We worked for Roy Curvers but that didn't work
out the best.
Tomorrow we have the hardest stage of the Ster Elektrotoer with
a couple of tough climbs in the Ardennes.
Greetings,
Koen
