Tour de Picardie
From Friday May 13th until Sunday May 15th, Koen will be taking
patr in the Tour of Picardy stage race in France.
The first stage brought the peloton from Abbeville to La
Neuville-en-Hez over a distance of 162 kilometres. Koen was well
positioned in the front group in the concluding phase of the stage
when just starting the final kilometre, Koen made a fault and rode
off the road onto some grass and fell. Koen crossed the line in
131st place but he was classified in the same time as the first
group due to crashing in the final kilometre.
The second stage went from Villers-Saint-Paul to Château-Thierry
over a distance of 166.5km and once again it just wasn't Koen's
race. With 12 kilometres left in the stage there was a big fall in
the peloton which took down Koen resulting in road rash and grazes.
Koen finished the stage but crossed the line 9.22min down in 121st
place.
The third and final stage of the race ended earlier than expected
for Koen who pulled out due to the after effects of the crash from
the second stage.
Despite having a bad weekend, Koen did not suffer any serious
crash and so hopefully he will be on form for delivering the
Skil-Shimano sprinters to the front during the upcoming Tour of
Belgium
